Our guiding principles:

Individualization:

SBS supports reflect an individual’s specific needs and interests at the level of intensity needed for as long as necessary.

Choice:

Valuing the preferences of each individual is critical to the success of any intervention.  People with disabilities should have the opportunity to voice individual preferences in the creation of their home environment, their work life, and their therapeutic milieu. Individuals in the program will dictate to the greatest extent possible the type and extent of services they receive.

Consistency:

The optimal environment for growth and change must at it’s core provide a sense of trust, security, and predictability. We place priority on the establishment of consistent treatment expectations, daily routines, and long term staff relationships.

Valued Social Roles:

It is our belief that all people are valuable members of their community. Unfortunately, people with disabilities are often socially devalued, and it is our expectation that we will support individuals to shift their self perception from “disability” to “different abilities” and to capitalize on their unique skills and talents.

Community Integration:

SBS strives for the end goal of clients being a part of the fabric of their neighborhood and community through recreational activities, routine activities of daily living, and vocational or volunteer pursuits.

Holistic Wellness:

SBS strongly supports and advocates for goals that attend to proper care of the body and mind. Woven throughout our services is an emphasis on healthy eating, exercise, and balanced self- care routines.
