Overview

Side By Side Supported Living, Inc. provides supported residential, vocational/educational, social, and therapeutic services that enable adults with disabilities to live as independently as possible in communities of their choice.

The overriding principle that guides SBS' services is to provide individuals with the opportunity to live with the rights, dignity, and responsibilities afforded all adults, regardless of their differences. Our clinical team supports each individual in his/her efforts to live according to their community's standards, norms, and expectations with the underlying goal of feeling respected, accepted, and valued.

SBS is committed to enabling each person to achieve his/her highest levels of personal competence, autonomy, independence, and community participation. We believe that everyone has the capacity to grow if the supports are available, meaningful, useful, motivating, and allow for individual choice.

To help individuals attain their maximum potential, the following are SBS's primary guiding principles:

Individualization: Residential supports, employment preferences, and therapeutic needs vary from person to person. SBS supports reflect the individual's specific needs and interests at the level of intensity needed for as long as is necessary.

Choice: Valuing the preferences of each individual is critical to the success of any intervention. People with disabilities should have the opportunity to voice individual preferences in the creation of their home environment, their work life, and their therapeutic milieu.

Consistency: Safety and security are basic human needs which are fulfilled through the establishment of expected routines, consistent treatment expectations, and the maintenance of a long-term living situation. The SBS clinical team places a primary focus on the creation and maintenance of stabilizing routines and secure living and working environments.

"In-Vivo" Supports and Services: It is our belief that supports provided directly in a person's home, community, or workplace will allow that individual to more quickly and easily feel that they are an integrated part of their community.

Community Integration: All clients receiving our services will be supported to become a participating member of their community and other social activities. SBS staff will work with clients in the development of their own individually tailored network of friends and supports.

Valued Social Roles: People with disabilities are at risk of social devaluation. SBS provides people the necessary help to develop, achieve, and maintain valued social roles.
