SidebySide COUNSELING
Side By Side Supported Living, Inc.
recognizes the importance of caring for the entire health
of the individual, including mental health. SBS Counseling
addresses the emotional needs of our clients by offering
treatment modalities that can enhance their social functioning
and interpersonal skills, overall mental health, and
family relationships.
Individual Counseling
SBS clients can meet one-on-one with a clinically trained
psychotherapist for individual therapy. SBS staff are
professionally trained to work with clients of all ages
presenting with a multitude of concerns. Issues addressed
can include: increasing independence, communication
skill building, developing conflict resolution techniques,
identifying coping skills, and building healthy relationships.
Group Counseling
Therapeutic groups can sometimes be the most effective
treatment modality in helping individuals to develop
positive relational skills, social supports, and communication
skills. We have the capacity to offer both psychoeducational
and therapeutic groups. Groups can be time-limited and
short term, or on-going. Examples of group topics available
include: anger management, healthy living, social skills,
and symptom management.
Family Counseling
SBS values families and family members of clients as
"expert witnesses" who know the intimate details,
both positive and negative, associated with their loved
one's disability. We believe that families are central
to the process of recovery, and that in some circumstances
family therapy can be effective in healing both the
individual and the group. Attending counseling together
as a family has been proven effective in treating individuals
with disabilities, improving relationships, and enhancing
the quality of life of all involved.
Parent Support
Parents are often left wondering
who to turn to when dealing with their adult children
with disabilities. Questions arise regarding how involved
to be, when to help with decision making on behalf of
your child, and how to relate to your child as he/she
grows and changes. SBS is here to support parents through
these questions and more. Licensed clinicians are available
for both one time consultations and ongoing support.
