SBS Living fosters unique opportunities for individuals with disabilities to become contributing members of their community. Our supports occur in natural environments such as the person's home, the bank, on public transportation, and in the supermarket. This type of in-vivo training provides a greater opportunity for our clients to learn and retain the skills associated with autonomous daily living. In order to facilitate the individual's appropriate use of independent living skills and acceptable social behavior, behavioral treatment plans are implemented by direct support staff. Case management and coordination services are also included with independent living services.

Congregate Living
SBS has available a building on Beacon Street in Brookline. The building is located a few minutes walk from the lively Coolidge Corner neighborhood. There are approximately 60 one-bedroom and studio units in this stately brick and gray stone mixed-residence building, with several apartments available for SBS clients. The remaining units are market rental units. Coolidge Corner is a busy area populated by a mix of families, students, and young professionals. There are many restaurants, a movie theater, bookstores, and people out and about. The urban atmosphere invites you to go walking, people watch, and participate in community activities. A live-in staff provides additional support for individuals residing in the building during the overnight hours.

Shared Living
SBS provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to reside with professionals in the human service field. The roommates share all of the tasks associated with the operation of the home. SBS matches the roommates and provides support and guidance to the living arrangement.

Community Living
SBS values the importance of assisting clients to maintain their maximum level of independence in whatever living situation is most comfortable to them. That is why we provide supports to individuals residing in their own homes, apartments, or dorm rooms. We can assist with locating an apartment, negotiating the lease, as well as establishing the home. Our staff assists with the on-going tasks associated with living in the community.

Regardless of the living situation, staff members are able to assist and support individuals to obtain and maintain the living environment that is most suitable to their needs and preferences. With the use of behavioral support plans, SBS is able to monitor and assist with financial management, medication management, daily living task completion, self-care routines, and attendance to appointments and social activities. The type and level of support provided is adjusted to meet each person's need in home, work, and social environments. An on-call paging system is also available to the clients and their families in the event of an emergency.
